Meeting Minutes 4/25/19

We talked about Avengers: Endgame and what to expect from the film. For those who have read the comics, you’ll know that it’s canon that Captain Marvel is the one to defeat Thanos. However, no one knows (except for the stars of the film, Kevin Feige, the writers, producers, editors, etc.) know how this film will end. Truthfully, if Captain Marvel is going to be the one to defeat Thanos, I will be kind of upset. Not that she isn’t capable of doing it but I think for massive Marvel fans like myself, seeing a character who was just introduced into the franchise defeat a villain whose been sort of lurking in the shadows for the last decade of movies will sort of defeat the purpose of having the original six there. What are you’re guys thoughts? any predictions?

We talked a lot about the prospects of traveling abroad. One our members will be traveling to Ireland this summer and we talked about the places we’d like to go outside of the United States. Personally, the United Kingdom has been at the top of my list for as long as I can remember. Laura talked about a program for graphic design that takes you over to Japan to tour the different animation and design studios which sounds incredibly cool.

Our last meeting of the semester will be next Tuesday, April 30th at 3:30 PM. As always we are located in room 1515 in the Library and we hope to see everyone there!

Meeting Minutes 4/9/19

  • We discussed movies that we are excited to see this year. We are all in agreement that we are most excited for Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King and Detective Pikachu.
  • Speaking of The Lion King– Did anyone else see that amazing trailer Disney dropped this morning?!
  • Our introductions to YouTube. JennaMarbles, Pewdiepie and Markiplier were definitely all staples among-st the group. A personal favorite channel of mine had to Epic Rap Battles of History (“Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello vs. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Deadpool v. Boba Fett” are personal favorites.)
  • Laura told us about this YouTuber, Jenny Nicholson who did a video talking about this Disney/Pixar conspiracy about this character called Buzzy who I guess was stolen from one of the buildings on the Disney/Pixar lot and it honestly was just really bizarre and wild. I recommend watching the video because it definitely peaked my interest.
  • Favorites cartoons as a kid. The Weekenders and The Buzz on Maggie on Disney Channel, a lot of old school Cartoon Network- Courage the Cowardly Dog (surprisingly didn’t scare me much as child as it does now as an adult.) the original Powderpuff Girls and Teen Titans Go!, Camp Laslow– all amazing and beloved.

SLAC takes on the Windy City!

This past Saturday, your favorite SLACers took a trip to Chicago!

We went to The Museum of Science and Industry and had a blast checking out all of the cool and exciting exhibits.

Anakin and Cesar playing a game at the museum. The object is you have to relax in order to move the ball in center to your opponents side!
Took some cool selfies in the mirror maze. Would it surprise anyone that I nearly ran into them several times?
They had an adorable baby chick display. Reminded me so much of the 4-H project I did in grade school!

It was definitely a long but fun day. The rest of the day was spent exploring the city and having a delicious dinner downtown at this little Italian joint.

Definitely a field trip I will not forget and one that I am so grateful I got to be apart of!

Meeting Minutes 2/26/19

I would like to formally apologize for the haphazard and lack of updates. Our meetings these last couple of weeks have been sporadic due to weather and other things going on.

However, yesterdays meeting went off without a hitch. We were joined by some new visitors who sat in on our meeting and got to see and experience what SLAC is all about. It was great being joined by some fresh faces and hope to see more new faces as the semester goes on!

We talked a little about the Oscars this past Sunday (congratulations to Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse), watched YouTuber Trisha Paytas sing “Satisfied” from the Broadway show Hamilton, and talked a little bit about how classes are going this semester.

Last week, Brandon, Anakin and myself record the highly anticipated Harry Potter episode of the 1515 Podcast! We discussed our houses and patronesses (Anakin is a Gryffindor, Brandon is a Slytherin and I am a Ravenclaw), talked about the movies and the books and be warned- there are many spoilers! The episode will be up in just a few short days.

Our next 1515 Podcast episode will center around Disney & Pixar!

We’ll be discussing the upcoming Lion King, Aladdin and Dumbo remakes and talking all things Disney & Pixar. Stay tuned for that episode in the next coming weeks!

Reminder: Meetings take place on Tuesdays at 3:30 PM in 1515 located in the HCC Libary.

Meeting Minutes 1/22/19

So, we had a pretty unconventional first meeting back to say the least. Although the weather was terribly cold, that didn’t stop us from meeting.

We had our first meeting via video chat (through Google Hangout) and to my surprise, as someone who is not super tech-savvy, it went great!

  • We discussed the 2019 Oscar nominations, congratulations are in order for Black Panther leading with 6 nominations (including Best Picture), Bohemian Rhapsody with 5 nominations including Best Actor (Rami Malek), and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse which is nominated for Best Animated Picture. There is plenty of competition this year and no doubt there will be some drama after the ceremony over snubs and losses.
  • We talked about films coming in 2019 including Captain Marvel, Detective Pikachu, Rocketman, and IT: Chapter Two. I think 2019 will be a great year for movies and, will be very diverse in terms of genres. Personally, I’m excited to see what “indie” films will be coming out this year. The last 2 years have been really good for the smaller, more “indie” films in my opinion and I don’t think 2019 will disappoint.

We’re Back…

Welcome back SLACers and Happy 2019!

I’ve missed you all and this blog so very much. But I am glad to be back.

A few highlights from last Fall:

  • We got several new members! Welcome Anakin, Hannah, Kaylee & Andrew.
  • We had our first official outing in November, we went to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald and went bowling afterwards.
  • We had a celebratory pizza & trivia party for our last meeting of the fall semester.
  • We recorded some cool podcast episodes that unfortunately will never see the light of day due to technical glitches. But it was still a blast to record them.
  • Our fearless and amazing VP Lauren graduated from Heartland.

This semester however, will be Brandon and I’s last, as we will both be leaving Heartland onto greener pastures. But we’re both looking forward to making this the best semester we can possibly have. We’ve got a couple new podcast ideas in the works and a few more outings as we try to get through this awful winter. As President, I look forward to giving you all the most nerdy and amazing content because that is what we do around here.

Our meeting day & time is still Tuesdays at 3:30 PM and you can find us in room 1515 located in the Library.

Meeting Minutes 9/18/18

Happy Almost October SLACers! I don’t know about any of you but I’m so over this hot weather and ready for crisp Fall days filled with apple cider, pumpkin donuts and of course- spooky movies. In my case, since I’m not the biggest fan of spooky movies, spooky themed socks… I already have 5 Halloween themed socks.
