Meeting Minutes 4/25/19

We talked about Avengers: Endgame and what to expect from the film. For those who have read the comics, you’ll know that it’s canon that Captain Marvel is the one to defeat Thanos. However, no one knows (except for the stars of the film, Kevin Feige, the writers, producers, editors, etc.) know how this film will end. Truthfully, if Captain Marvel is going to be the one to defeat Thanos, I will be kind of upset. Not that she isn’t capable of doing it but I think for massive Marvel fans like myself, seeing a character who was just introduced into the franchise defeat a villain whose been sort of lurking in the shadows for the last decade of movies will sort of defeat the purpose of having the original six there. What are you’re guys thoughts? any predictions?

We talked a lot about the prospects of traveling abroad. One our members will be traveling to Ireland this summer and we talked about the places we’d like to go outside of the United States. Personally, the United Kingdom has been at the top of my list for as long as I can remember. Laura talked about a program for graphic design that takes you over to Japan to tour the different animation and design studios which sounds incredibly cool.

Our last meeting of the semester will be next Tuesday, April 30th at 3:30 PM. As always we are located in room 1515 in the Library and we hope to see everyone there!

SLAC takes on the Windy City!

This past Saturday, your favorite SLACers took a trip to Chicago!

We went to The Museum of Science and Industry and had a blast checking out all of the cool and exciting exhibits.

Anakin and Cesar playing a game at the museum. The object is you have to relax in order to move the ball in center to your opponents side!
Took some cool selfies in the mirror maze. Would it surprise anyone that I nearly ran into them several times?
They had an adorable baby chick display. Reminded me so much of the 4-H project I did in grade school!

It was definitely a long but fun day. The rest of the day was spent exploring the city and having a delicious dinner downtown at this little Italian joint.

Definitely a field trip I will not forget and one that I am so grateful I got to be apart of!

Meeting Minutes 9/18/18

Happy Almost October SLACers! I don’t know about any of you but I’m so over this hot weather and ready for crisp Fall days filled with apple cider, pumpkin donuts and of course- spooky movies. In my case, since I’m not the biggest fan of spooky movies, spooky themed socks… I already have 5 Halloween themed socks.

NEW Podcast EP and End of the Semester Reminder!

Just like that, this school year has come to a close. While I’m thrilled classes are over, I am sad to be leaving SLAC for the summer. Seeing what this club has accomplished makes my heart happy and I can’t wait for all the fun and adventures we’ll be getting up to next semester.

The new 1515 Podcast EP is here!

Last Thursday, we did also wrap up some final house-keeping items.

  • Our new meeting time will be Thursdays at 4PM in Room 1515 located in the Library.
  • We will not be meeting this Thursday (5/17) but our last meeting will be Friday, May 18th at Biaggi’s at 1PM.

On a final note, I would again like to thank Lauren, Brandon, and Jill for being my partners in crime and making SLAC and the 1515 Podcast so incredibly fun and memorable. You guys are truly the most wonderful and creative people I have ever met and I look forward to more adventures and SLACing next Fall!

Meeting Minutes- April 12, 2018

  • We have successfully planned when our final lunch of the semester will be! Our Spring SLAC lunch at Biaggi’s will be at 1 PM on Friday, May 18th.
  • Our next episode of the 1515 Podcast will be next Thursday! We made a change of plans in terms of what we will be discussing. Our Marvel episode will be premiering the week of April 30th. (Which now that I’m thinking about it, that’s when we should’ve have had our Star Wars episode, because ya know, May 4th is Star Wars Day. OH WELL.) We decided to move it because we will all have at least seen Infinity War once and we won’t be beating a dead horse with theories and we can actually discuss the film. But we will not be revealing any spoilers!, even though social media will be going crazy with them.
  • The book sale will be held the week of April 30th. We’re still ironing out details of exactly what days, prices, location but we will be posting signage around campus and I will make that available on here as well so be on the lookout for that.
  • We discussed underrated and overrated films.
    • Lauren says that Titanic, Avatar, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen are overrated and over-hyped.
    • Brandon can’t stand Fantasia 2000.
    • Jill’s got beef with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
    • Me? Avatar. Honestly, the most overrated film of all time, that Frozen and The Lion King (sorry not sorry).
    • Some underrated films: Moana, Pocahontas, Mulan, Oliver and Company, Aristocats.
    • In conclusion: Kids these days just don’t appreciate a good Disney film when they see it.
  • We talked about Disney coming out with all these live-action remakes of the animated films.
    • Including: Dumbo, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Sword in the Stone, Lady and the Tramp, and Peter Pan. Just to name a few.

Meeting Minutes- March 29th, 2018

Only 5 weeks left until the end of the semester! I apologize for not posting as frequently but we here in SLAC has been busy working away at some upcoming projects!

  • We have officially picked a logo for SLAC and will hopefully be ordering t-shirts this coming Thursday!
  • We started a podcast, well almost. We recorded a demo episode of our podcast last Thursday to try it out and it was a success! We won’t be releasing the demo episode to the public but we will be recording the official 1st episode this coming Thursday. I will post the link to it later in the week.
  • We’ll be having our end of the semester lunch at Biaggi’s. The date and time is currently TBD but I will post it as soon we confirm them.
  • SLAC will be hosting a Book Sale later this month! We have tons and tons of books in our storage room in the library we want to sell them to you, the general public! dates, times and location will be announced in the upcoming weeks but do keep an eye out for flyers advertising the sale!
  • I would like to give a huge shout out to Brandon for setting the podcast up and for suggesting we give a try. Even listening to the demo episode made me cry I was incredibly proud of it and I can’t wait to record more episodes. I would also like to thank him for designing our logo for the t-shirts. It’s been several months and weeks in the making of these projects and I’m very proud of all the hard work he’s put in to really make SLAC the best it can be.
